The Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science offers three unique bachelor of science degrees and one post-baccalaureate degree in: B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science (BLS) B.S. in Cytotechnology B.S. in Investigative and Medical Sciences (IMS) Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Cytotechnology Post-baccalaureate Certificates in Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, and Clinical Hematology The Medical Laboratory Science and Cytotechnology degrees produce laboratory health care professionals who are experts in disease detection, diagnosis and monitoring. This is a community supported agriculture (CSA) program that will partner with local farmers to supply you with quality, local produce. Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. A share consists of a crate of produce harvested weekly by local farmers. The variety and amount available each week depends on seasonality and the farmers' yield. A full share is $850 ($35.41/week) and a half share is $550 ($22.91/week). Keep in mind that the idea of this program is to support local farmers who practice agriculturally sustainable methods. Every Thursday between 11:30am and 6pm, shareholders hand-select their produce from our farmers’ market shelf at Fresh Gatherings Cafe. Shareholders will be given a small sheet outlining what was gathered that week and where it came from. Any non-claimed CSA produce will be donated to a local charity - such as Campus Kitchen. Payments must be submitted in full up front, along with the signed contract, and turned in to Carolyn Iezzi in the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Room 3076, in the Allied Health Building. Systema St. Louis teaches the ability to survive and win, in stressful, dangerous and violent situations in as close to actual environments as possible, in addition to states of extreme duress, and exhaustion. Systema St. Louis' training philosophy is based on the principles and philosophy of Systema - Russian Martial Art. With this combat system, special uniforms and belts are irrelevant. We don’t focus on learned stances and drills. We focus on teaching battle-proven skills that are quick, unsportsmanlike & lethal, and focus on a body’s natural positioning and movement to be able to efficiently strike, absorb a strike, avoid and re-direct from any position. Our training philosophy is not to be confused with any traditional fighting arts and/or combat sports fighting systems. We are not in the business of taking years to teach a client how to incapacitate or eliminate even the most basic fighter, but rather months, comparable to the time a special ops soldier has to prepare for an operation. There are just too many aspects of traditional fighting arts and sports-based fighting systems that are life-threateningly impractical and inefficient for the street and actual brutal violence. Our training is intense and demanding and nothing is off limits other than morality and legality. All training is conducted in a controlled yet extremely realistic environment, meaning no mats and pads, and real weapons are used (inoperable firearms and slightly dulled edged weapons). Essentially, we remove all of the elements that would give you a false sense of security. If you constantly learn how to fall, roll and/or maneuver on a mat and use rubber or plastic weapons, you are not training properly for actual battle or violence. Violence never happens in an emotional vacuum and learning how to operate when placed under stress and high emotion is a very necessary way to develop effective fighting skills/abilities. By educating your decision making process whilst under high emotion you will learn to both choose effective solutions and choose them quickly.
The Medical Family Therapy Program is a program within the Department of Family and Community Medicine of Saint Louis University's School of Medicine. It is designed to train license-eligible Master's students in marriage and family therapy and doctoral students who are academicians and clinicians in mental health and primary care settings. M.A. in Family Therapy (medical family therapy concentration): The M.A. in Family Therapy is based on a systemic/relational view of individuals, couples and families. It fulfills the course and practicum requirements toward licensure in the State of Missouri as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist. The program requires a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree. Prerequisites include 18 credit hours in the behavioral sciences. Program requirements include didactic courses, two semesters of practicum, three semesters of internship in a community mental health or primary care health setting and the attainment of a minimum of 500 hours of direct clinical contact. The concentration in medical family therapy prepares student to function as part of an integrated care team in addressing the biopsychosocial needs of individuals and families. Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy: The Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy is based on a systemic/relational view of individuals, couples and families. It prepares clinicians to work within an integrated care health setting in collaboration with medical and mental health professionals. Coursework focuses on theory, practice and research in the field of couple and family therapy with an emphasis on intervention in primary care medical settings and as adjunct health providers in specialty care. The doctoral program involves a minimum of 51 credit hours of coursework beyond the master's degree, plus comprehensive examinations and original research culminating in the dissertation (12+ credit hours). The Ph.D. has a clinical component in which students are trained in both mental health and medical settings as part of an integrated care team of health professionals. Students are required to complete a nine to twelve month internship. The Marriage and Family Therapy Doctoral Program at Saint Louis University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Allies for Inclusion: The Abilities Exhibit is a traveling display designed to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities through respect for others, comfort during interactions, and awareness of disability issues. Using a multi-media approach, the exhibit offers suggestions for becoming disability allies and educators. What began as a graduate student’s project in a course grew into a sophisticated exhibit displayed on college campuses across the county.

The Center for Global Citizenship is a 70,000-square-foot center which brings the Cross Cultural Center, the Center for Service and Community Engagement, the Center for Intercultural Studies, and the Center for International Studies under one roof, and adjacent to the English as a Second Language Program, the Center for Sustainability and the Office of International Services located in Des Peres Hall. The Center is available for events, both SLU sponsored and externally hosted, which support the mission to promote collaboration across the University to educate and engage the SLU community for global awareness, responsibility, and participation. The consortium located in the Center for Global Citizenship and Des Peres Hall will also collaborate to offer speakers, programs and events which promote global citizenship. With nearly 1,000 students from more than 70 different countries, as well as nearly 350 students studying abroad in more than 15 different counties each academic year, the new Center for Global Citizenship will help SLU transform students into educated and knowledgeable members of the global community.
Components of the Minor Why Middle East Studies? SLU's Center for International Studies is excited to offer a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. While programs at other universities focus only on the role of Islam in this region in the contemporary era, the Middle East Studies minor at SLU offers courses that examine the roles of Jewish, Christian and Islamic cultures from ancient to modern times. We cover the geographic area of the traditional Middle East and also the areas influenced by or politically tied to the cultures of the Middle East, such as Spain and Africa. This broad introduction to the region provides a strong foundation on which to pursue further study. Language Requirement? This minor requires two semesters (6 credit hours) of university-level Arabic or equivalent proficiency; further language study is encouraged. Native speakers of Arabic are exempt from the language requirement, but must take an additional elective in its place. Students who are proficient in another Middle Eastern language should discuss their course of study with the director of the minor. Capstone Requirement Students will revise a research paper that was originally written for one of the elective courses from the minor. The student will present the revised paper during an annual capstone event their senior year. Courses A variety of electives allows students to tailor the minor to their individual interests. Students are required to take a minimum of 16 credits from approved courses in consultation with the Middle East Studies director. The Middle East Studies minor enhances other international programs offered at SLU, giving students a special perspective on a crucial part of the world. Study Abroad Though studying abroad is not required for the minor, SLU offers a wealth of Study Abroad programs to give students a comprehensive learning experience by studying in the Middle East in order to gain an even better understanding of this region.
