La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles,, is a historic Roman Catholic church in El Pueblo de los Ángeles Historical Monument in northern downtown Los Angeles, California, United States. The church was founded by the Spanish in the early 19th century when modern-day California was under Spanish rule and known as Alta California in the Viceroyalty of New Spain.HistoryLa Iglesia de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles was founded on August 18, 1814, by Franciscan Fray Luis Gil y Taboada. He placed the cornerstone for the new church in the adobe ruins of the original "sub-station mission" here, the Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles Asistencia, thirty years after it was established to serve the settlement founding Los Angeles Pobladores . The completed new structure was dedicated on December 8, 1822. A replacement chapel, named La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles - for Mary, mother of Jesus or "The Church of Our Lady of the Angels" - was rebuilt using materials of the original church in 1861. The title Reina, meaning "Queen," was added later to the name. For years, the little chapel, which collected the nicknames "La Placita" and "Plaza Church," served as the sole Roman Catholic church in emerging immigrant Los Angeles.

At the turn into the 20th century two major groups of the Croatian immigrants began to settle in Southern California. Among the first to arrive were Croatians from Dalmatia. The Pacific ocean was a perfect match for the Adriatic Sea they left behind. So, many of them chose to settle in San Pedro where they soon became an integral part of the local fishing and ship building industry. Ecclesially the majority of them have become affiliated with a local Catholic parish, Mary Star of the Sea. The other group arrived from Hercegovina and from the continental Croatia. They settled at the heart of Los Angeles. Having been involved in the heavy construction industry, they greatly contributed to the Los Angeles area impressive growth. The Exodus continued throughout the 20th century. Three large waves of the Croatian immigrants kept inundating the greater Los Angeles area, where most of them settled down. These immigrants were motivated to leave both for economic and political reasons. They were arriving in between the two world wars, after World War II and just recently during the Croatian war for independence. In order to advance their ecclesial adaptation, in 1910 the Croatian national parish was formed and the present church building built under the leadership of Fr. Anthony Žuvić.. In 1934 a parish hall was erected, and it served its multi-purpose design well over the years. The magnificent new parish center replaced the old parish hall in 1996. The present rectory was constructed in 1967.

The Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, often called St. Vibiana's, is a former cathedral church building and parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Located in Downtown Los Angeles, the building opened in 1876 as the cathedral for what was then known as the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles, and remained the official cathedral of the Los Angeles see for over 100 years.The cathedral was heavily damaged during the 1994 Northridge earthquake and became the subject of a lengthy legal battle between the archdiocese, which wanted to demolish the building and build a new cathedral on the site, and preservationists, who wanted the building to remain standing due to its historical significance. In 1996, the parties involved reached a compromise in which the archdiocese would purchase a nearby site on which to build a new cathedral, and in turn would turn over the St. Vibiana site to the City of Los Angeles. The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels was dedicated in 2002 as the successor to St. Vibiana's Cathedral.In the late 2000s, the former cathedral building became an event venue called Vibiana. The Little Tokyo branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is also located on the site. The 1885 cathedral structure is one of the last remaining buildings from the early period of Los Angeles history.

St. Francis Xavier community was first established approximately 100 years ago on December 25, 1912 when the first Japanese language Mass was said at the Settlement House that was located at 711 Jackson Street, to meet the needs of the Japanese Catholics in the Los Angeles area. Through the years, St. Francis Xavier Chapel (formerly known as Maryknoll) has continued it’s outreach to the whole Japanese American Community. St. Francis Xavier Chapel-Japanese Catholic Center serves the Japanese speaking and English speaking Catholics of all ethnicities. All are welcome. The Koyasan Buddhist Temple, officially known as "Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin" of Los Angeles, is located in Little Tokyo area near the Civic Center. The Temple belongs to the Koyasan Shingon Mission founded by Kobo-Daishi (774-835 A.D.) and refers to one of the Mahayana Buddhist Schools. The Temple serves as the Koyasan Shingon Mission headquarters for the mainland United States. Our temple follows Shingon Buddhism, a Vajrayana Buddhist sect that was established by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) at the beginning of the Heian period (9th century) in Japan. This form of Buddhism is also known in Japanese as "mikkyo" (secret teaching) and is one of several streams of practice within the Mahayana Buddhist tradition The word 'shingon' means "true words". According to the teachings, enlightenment is not a distant reality that takes eternity to approach but a real possibility within this very life, based on the spiritual potential of every living being.
