At Ruby Falls, guests enjoy a guided tour through the fascinating cavern with its unique rock formations. The highlight of the tour is the sparkling 145-foot waterfall flowing out of the roof of the cavern. Visitors see the panoramic view from the Lookout Mountain Tower® or relax on the mountainside deck with a snack. Ruby Falls is open every day from 8 am – 8 pm. Guided tours depart every few minutes. Visit rubyfalls.com for more info. Ruby Falls was discovered on December 30, 1928 – over 80 years ago! Leo Lambert and a small crew spent 17 hours in the cave before discovering the waterfall. He later named the falls after his wife, Ruby. “Discovering Ruby Falls was like discovering God…you don’t know what lies ahead…and feel like you cannot go on…but you get up with a feeling that somewhere ahead lies something more wonderful than you could ever imagine.” –Leo Lambert, Dec. 30, 1928 The limestone excavated from the elevator shaft and cave trails was used to build the Ruby Falls Cavern Castle. Even then, Ruby Falls was making efforts to reuse resources and protect the environment. Today, Ruby Falls is thriving in environmental efforts, saving energy and reducing waste by using LED lighting in the cave and the recent installation of solar panels. Ruby Falls is the first US attraction to join the Green Globe/Green Certification program. Ruby Falls has several special events throughout the year, such as Lantern Tours, Romance at Ruby, Battle Below the Clouds, Foto @ the Falls, Ice Cream Days, Football at the Falls, Haunted Cavern, Christmas Underground and Discovery Day. Chattanooga adds a "new adventure above the rest" with a never-before-seen view of the Scenic City from the tree tops at Ruby Falls - ZIPStream Aerial Adventure! This is the first adventure experience of its type to hit Tennessee! This challenge is made up of suspended obstacle courses built in trees that include ladders, nets, walkways, bridges, tunnels and zip lines! A ZIPStream course gets the adrenaline pumping and allows people to step out of their comfort zones and experience things they never believed they could do. And it's great fun! The ZIPStream Aerial Adventure is a partnership between The Adventure Guild and Ruby Falls, and is the flagship location for The Adventure Guild's national ZIPStream brand of aerial adventures.
