The Red Poppy Art House is an on-site exploration in cultural-artistic-community engagement in the residential sector of the Mission District of San Francisco. With an aesthetic often likened to small cafés found on the back streets of European and South American cities, the Art House serves as a micro-center for artistic development, experimentation, and presentation, framed within the intimate setting of a 650-square foot commercial locale. Through this context, we seek to make visible the full living of artists, making the space itself as accessible and familiar and as one's neighborhood corner store. Continually shape-shifting in form, the Art House unifies a working artist studio, concert hall, classroom, and everyday meeting ground where new relationships are forged. Our ideal is to wed the arts to everyday life, immersed in both the richness and the complexity of challenges inherent in our own community and the greater society at large.

Our gallery program features painting, illustration, and sculpture that is modern, colorful, and positive, integrating many elements of urban culture with traditional techniques. We work with over 30 artists of varying styles and scales yet strive to achieve a cohesive aesthetic. Started as an online clothing boutique called fabric8 in 1995, we opened our current location in 2006 and shifted focus towards the multitude of talented visual artists working in contemporary mediums. Luna Rienne joined the team in 2012 and honed the mission of the gallery, consequently prompting the change of business name in 2013.

"When the music changes, so does the dance." -African Proverb We love variety, so we partner dance to many styles of music, exploring different styles of movement to go with it. To blues music we dance blues dances. To other music we branch out and explore AltDancing. We play a mixture of blues music and a wide range of other types of music that's fun to partner dance to. Our classes reflect our variety- many of them are blues dance classes, and others are on topics including Lyrical Partnered Dancing, Stealing movements from Tango, Partner Connection, and beyond. Check out the page for this week's topics. There are two 8:30 classes for you to choose from- a beginning or all-levels class, and an all-levels or int./advanced class. Haven't danced before? Please come check it out! No partners needed- during class we rotate. Please wear dance shoes, socks, or non-gripping shoes with clean soles. No stilettos, please- they grind into the venue floor. Sometimes it gets warm- if you tend to sweat a lot, consider bringing changes of shirt. Go light on the perfume, and remember the deodorant. All ages welcome.
