South Station — officially The Governor Michael S. Dukakis Transportation Center at South Station — is the largest railroad station and intercity bus terminal in Greater Boston and New England's second-largest transportation center after Logan International Airport. Located at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Summer Street in Dewey Square, Boston, Massachusetts, the historic station building was constructed in 1899 to replace the downtown terminals of several railroads. Today, it serves as a major intermodal domestic transportation hub, with service to the Greater Boston region and the Midwestern and Northeastern United States. It is used by thousands of commuter rail and intercity rail passengers daily. Connections to the rapid transit Red Line and Silver Line are made through the adjacent subway station.The station was renamed for former Massachusetts governor Michael S. Dukakis in November 2014, though maps and station signs continue to use the shorter "South Station".
GrubStreet was founded in 1997 by Eve Bridburg, who envisioned an arts center that welcomed writers of all genres and ambitions, and which cultivated a rigorous but supportive atmosphere that never involved tears or humiliation. Writing is about inspiration, but is also about craft, hard work, and who you know. GrubStreet aims to help with all aspects of the literary life, from experimenting with a different genre to marketing a finished work. We believe that writers at all levels hunger for critical feedback that is honest but not damaging, and encouragement that is constructive and not hand-holding. One Boston Place, also known as the Boston Company Building, is a 41-story office tower located in the Financial District of Boston, Massachusetts. With a height of 601 feet (183 meters), One Boston Place is the 5th-tallest building in the city. Despite its simple appearance, One Boston Place has become a major Boston landmark due to its distinctive diagonal exterior bracing and unusual rooftop "box" design. Completed in 1970, the skyscraper has served as home to several law, financial, real estate, and corporate firms. Bank of New York Mellon is currently (July 2007) the primary tenant of the building.HistoryDesigned by architect Pietro Belluschi and developed by Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, construction of One Boston Place began in November 1967, and the first tenants occupied the building in March 1970. Alex Sutelman has served as the building's Chief Engineer since the early 1980s.FeaturesOne Boston Place has a steel frame construction with a masonry core. The building contains eighteen passenger elevators and one freight elevator, which were renovated in 2005. The lobby entrance features a planar glass wall system. The diagonal exterior bracing is characteristic of the architectural movement structural expressionism.In October 2007, One Boston Place was recognized by the EPA's ENERGY STAR program.In November 2008, One Boston Place became the first building in the world to earn a Gold level of certification through the US Green Building Council's LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED EB O&M) rating system. The building's environmental highlights include a highly reflective white roof and hardscape, the use of native vegetation on the building's plaza, and strong support of indoor air quality standards.
