Saucy Porka blends the bold flavors and savory spices found in Puerto Rico, South East Asia, China, Japan and Korea. These dishes combine comfort foods from the motherland with a touch of modern technique to fuse the cultures. While pork is the starlet of the show, the menu offers a variety of dishes to satisfy all preferences, including non-pork and vegetarian options. Saucy Porka was born from chefs Amy Le and Rafael Lopez blending comfort foods and recreating home-style dishes. These saucy creations pay homage to the cooking of their Asian and Latin roots. The recipes have been passed down for generations, accompanied by the valuable lesson that a recipe is nothing without spirit and soul.

Courthouse Place, also known as the Cook County Criminal Court Building, is a Richardsonian Romanesque-style building at 54 West Hubbard Street in the Near North Side of Chicago. Designed by architect Otto H. Matz and completed in 1893, it replaced and reused material from the earlier 1874 criminal courthouse (the same location of the trial and hangings related to the Haymarket Affair). The complex included the Cook County Jail and the hanging gallows for prisoners sentenced to death. The current structure housed the Cook County Criminal Courts for its first 35 years, and was the site of many legendary trials, including the Leopold and Loeb murder case, the Black Sox Scandal, and the jazz age trials that formed the basis of the play and musical Chicago. Newspaperman Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur based much of their 1928 play, The Front Page, on the daily events in this structure. Other authors of the Chicago’s 1920s literary renaissance that were employed in the fourth floor pressroom include Carl Sandburg, Sherwood Anderson, and Vincent Starrett. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1984 and later designated a Chicago Landmark on June 9, 1993.
Mexican street food’s allure is it’s rustic immediacy—experiencing the aromas, sights and sounds of each dish being crafted, interacting with the cooks, customizing your choices. That’s why your first step into XOCO is a step into our kitchen, where each torta is built, each baked good is fashioned, each hot chocolate is whipped to a froth as you watch. Just as street food stalls attract passersby with the rustic allure of wood fires and boldly aromatic offerings, the centerpiece of XOCO’s kitchen is its wood-burning oven where tortas get crisped and suckling pigs for cochinita pibil and lamb for barbacoa are braised overnight in banana leaves.
