It was incredible to listen to the before and after versions and we are greatly appreciative of your willingness to schedule us in at late notice. Coit Tower, also known as the Lillian Coit Memorial Tower, is a 210ft tower in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The tower, in the city's Pioneer Park, was built in 1933 using Lillie Hitchcock Coit's bequest to beautify the city of San Francisco; at her death in 1929 Coit left one-third of her estate to the city for civic beautification. The tower was proposed in 1931 as an appropriate use of Coit's gift. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 29, 2008.The art deco tower, built of unpainted reinforced concrete, was designed by architects Arthur Brown, Jr. and Henry Howard, with fresco murals by 27 different on-site artists and their numerous assistants, plus two additional paintings installed after creation off-site. Although an apocryphal story claims that the tower was designed to resemble a fire hose nozzle due to Coit's affinity with the San Francisco firefighters of the day, the resemblance is coincidental.HistoryCoit Tower was paid for with money left by Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a wealthy socialite who loved to chase fires in the early days of the city's history. Before December 1866, there was no city fire department, and fires in the city, which broke out regularly in the wooden buildings, were extinguished by several volunteer fire companies. Lillie Coit was one of the more eccentric characters in the history of North Beach and Telegraph Hill, smoking cigars and wearing trousers long before it was socially acceptable for women to do so. She was an avid gambler and often dressed like a man in order to gamble in the males-only establishments that dotted North Beach.

Barbarossa Lounge

714 Montgomery St

Barbarossa is a cocktail-driven bar and lounge in North Beach, breathing new life into the historic location at 714 Montgomery Street and opening to the public on November 19, 2015. As one of the oldest buildings in San Francisco, having survived the famous 1906 earthquake, Barbarossa will showcase an entirely new concept—one that is full with legend and mystery as the space was used as a jailhouse in the 19th century. Most recently serving the neighborhood as the former Bubble Lounge, Barbarossa is where Barbary Coast atmosphere meets modern luxury, while maintaining relevancy to present San Francisco drinking culture. Barbarossa will be open Monday-Wednesdays from 4:00p.m.-12:00a.m., Thursdays-Fridays from 4:00p.m.-2:00a.m., Saturdays from 6:00p.m.-2:00a.m. and Sundays from 6:00p.m.-12:00a.m.. Barbarossa’s beverage program includes a seasonally rotating 11-cocktail menu with drinks that are named after famous criminals, madams, dance hall girls and politicians of the time. The beverage menu is made complete with signature grog. Grog is a drink of historical significance and supports Barbarossa’s Barbary Coast sensibility perfectly. This drink was often consumed by pirates and sailors, mixing three main ingredients: spirit, citrus and water. The citrus was used to ward off scurvy, while the spirit (typically rum) was used to keep the water from going rancid. Grog is served Collins-style. Each grog may be ordered with the patron’s own spirit of choice, although it goes best with Whiskey or Bourbon. In addition to the cocktail menu, Barbarossa offers a selection of beer (12 on tap), wine, and selection of champagne. The bar also features champagne flights, champagne both by the bottle (approximately 30) and by the glass, of harder-to-find varietals. This is somewhat in homage to its former concept and as they still have access to one of the most curated champagne selections in the Bay Area. Barbarossa's food menu is simple, reasonably priced, and meant to share. The menu is broken down into four main categories that were popular on menus during 19th century: “from the ocean” (raw bar), “leaves, fruits and roots,” “meats & cheeses,” and “dessert.” The “from the ocean section” prominently features oysters, both local and imported. Popular items include Sausages (current vendor, Foreign Cinema/ShowDogs) as well as the Red Pastrami. All oysters will be served with 4-5 different, seasonal vinaigrettes; all flavor profiles are meant to support the cocktails.

We, the partners of 447 Broadway believe that the time is now for a new direction on Broadway; for fresh concepts that will bring new crowds and more diversity to the street. The goal? Stimulate the economy, bring out new entrepreneurs and mark the start of Broadway's return to its legacy status as a major cultural and musical destination for tourists and locals alike. We seek to lead this change with the introduction of a completely redesigned and newly branded upscale happy hour lounge and Top 40 dance club at 447 Broadway. Proudly announcing, “HUE,” a new lounge and dance club which promises to bring energy and excitement to the block, adding to the wave of fresh faces enveloping the entire neighborhood. It has started at Tosca's, The Comstock, Devils Acre, Doc’s Lab (and the future ChinaLive/Box Theatre) on Columbus to the west, and The Battery and the soon‐to‐be Teatro Zinzani to the east. HUE aspires to provide a new destination for the thousands of young urban professionals ages 21 ‐ 35, now working and playing in the Financial and in SOMA, flooding San Francisco with spending and activity not seen since the days of the Gold Rush. HUE will target this demographic with a newly remodeled venue divided into an upscale “street friendly” happy hour lounge and an intimate dance club showcasing live music, DJ led sets, and dancing. HUE, is a talent‐driven destination venue which will attract it’s targeted demographic through an intense focus on musical programming. The format is Top 40, Pop, House and Electronic Dance Music with offerings ranging from local singer‐songwriters and budding DJ’s in the lounge, to regionally and nationally known DJ's, live track performances by trending artists, and the occasional band in the dance club. House DJ’s will be under contract to create the target environment and digressions from format will not be tolerated. HUE will distinguish itself from its competitors through its superior musical offerings. The talent buying team will be led by partner Bennett Montoya; an industry veteran with more than 12 years in the field. Bennett will dedicate himself, full‐time, to curating a program specifically targeted to the desired demographic – a new, more gentile crowd. HUE’s principal marketing partner will be 99.7 FM, which speaks directly to this demographic through a blend of Top 40 hits culled from the Billboard charts. An in‐house promotional team will support this effort by promoting HUES’s brand and message through all appropriate social media channels as well as standard print media, radio and ticketing agencies. In addition, the partners and consultants at HUE hope to engage the other clubs on the street as part of a larger effort to diversify the entertainment offerings of Broadway. HUE's musical format is best typified by the artists below. Some of these artists will be booked for special appearances, most will be covered by our local singer‐songwriters, and their music will be played over the sound system.
