While in pursuit of quality childcare for infants I realized the dire need for a center that would ease the hesitation reluctant mothers experienced prior to returning to the workforce. Much to my dismay, there were few viable choices. I then began on an expedition that will culminate with the opening of Good Shepherd Infant and Toddler Center (Good Shepherd). Good Shepherd provides superior childcare to the children of the Missouri workforce in a safe and secure environment. We will serve age groups ranging from birth to 12 years old. The center will be segregated by age group, each with a program strategically designed for the participants’ developmental level. Each group’s day will be tailored with developmentally appropriate activities that will stimulate them in several areas. Our center’s goal is to positively impact the total child by catering to them emotionally, stimulating them cognitively, helping them adjust socially and aiding in their physical development. We’ll offer well-balanced, nutritious meals, educated and experienced staff in a safe, well-maintained, licensed facility. My research revealed that infants and toddlers are under-served in the desired area. Most centers begin providing care for children two years of age and older. The care of infants requires adherence to stringent student teacher ratios and facility regulations. Therefore, many centers refrain from servicing this group. However, Good Shepherd recognizes the specialized attention infants require and welcomes the challenge. This willingness gives us a competitive advantage, especially with families with siblings. A family is more likely to select Good Shepherd over another center that doesn’t service infants or toddlers for the convenience of making one stop. Our level of service, our professional environment and our commitment to recruit and retain competent staff also gives us a competitive edge. Our Team provides safe transportation for all current and future families. This allows us to reach more families in need of great childcare. When we are confident we can achieve further expansion without compromising current quality, we will provide evening, overnight and weekend care. Doing so will service families who help our city continue to conduct business 24 hours a day. Some employees’ workday does not begin until 6:00 p.m. while others’ workday does not end until 6:00 a.m. We want to accommodate all families no matter what their work schedules may be. We also want to eventually service families who work outside the standard Monday – Friday schedule by offering weekend care. Our management team consists of the Owner/Director, Cortaiga S. Collins. Mrs. Collins successfully managed a 77 student preschool for two and a half academic years. She has completed the required number of college courses in Early Childhood Education to meet the state’s requirement to manage a center with 60 children. Mrs. Collins earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in St. Louis and a Master’s Degree from Webster University. She has formal education and 15 years work experience in business and accounting. She’s done both profit and non –profit accounting. Mrs. Collins has alliances with three other successful daycare center owners from which she can draw valuable information.
